Floral Bowls
A Floral Arranging Secret
This past year I learned the best floral arranging secret… to use a floral frog! This best kept secret makes an average grocery store bouquet look like a million bucks; all with the use of this simple, timeless tool. Floral frogs can be made of pottery, glass or metal and sit inside the bottom of a bowl or vase in water to hold floral stems snuggly into place. Traditionally used in the Japanese style of floral design, today floral frogs are used by florists across the globe in an array of styles. Although new to me, floral frogs date back to the 16th century. How cool is that? Today, floral frogs are available anywhere from flower shops to antique stores as well as online sources.

Here you can see how beautiful this arrangement came together for a project I worked on a few months ago. It only took a few flowers and a floral frog to make this stunning floral bowl. This particular arrangement made an appearance in a Leawood City Lifestyle photoshoot demonstrating how to use wax seals. To see the full tutorial, you can visit the blog post entitled Wax Seals. DIY Floral Bowls
There are many types of floral frogs but my favorite are the floral pins. Whichever frog you choose, simply place the floral frog inside a bowl, fill with water and stick each flower stem into the frog spikes or holes where stems will stay exactly in place. I love that with the floral frog even the most shallow bowl will hold a beautiful bouquet of flowers. To create your own arrangements follow the instructions here.
Supplies Needed
10-20 Floral Stems
Floral Frog
Small Bowl of choice
Kitchen Scissors or Floral Shears
How to Assemble
Choose a bowl for your arrangement- even the smallest bowl will do. Place the floral frog at the base of the bowl and fill with water. Using shears, freshly snip each floral stem and place it into the spikes of the floral frog to hold the stem snugly in place.
Front Cover Feature
I am honored that my cheerful floral bowl made it on the front cover of the May issue of Lee’s Summit Lifestyle Magazine. This month they are celebrating woman and I know you will find great inspiration there. Cheers!
